What is Telegram

Telegram is an instant messaging service owned by the company Telegram LLC, founded by Russian entrepreneur Pavel Durov, with headquarters in Dubai. The application is free for Android, iOS, Windows Phone, macOS, Linux, and Windows, allowing users to send texts, photos, videos, and files of any type.

The application was founded by the Durov brothers, Nikolaj Durov and Pavel Durov, in 2013. The brothers are also the founders of the Russian social network VK.

Telegram can be downloaded from the official website or your device’s store and is completely free to download and use.

Telegram Unlike other instant messaging applications, Telegram has no limits on sending and receiving messages, and there are no restrictions on the size of files that can be sent to other users. It utilizes a cloud system based on encrypted chats, ensuring that your messages are private and secure.

Telegram’s interface is very similar to other instant messaging interfaces. The dashboard is divided into two parts, with the left part containing a list of contacts, and the right part displaying the chat for conversations. Regarding the desktop version, clicking on a conversation provides access to a screen where all messages of the conversation are found, along with the section to write and attach various files.

How does Telegram work?

Telegram is an instant messaging service similar to WhatsApp but with additional features. It relies on an end-to-end encryption security plan, meaning that messages are encrypted when transmitted and can only be decrypted by the sender and the recipient.

Telegram also features a self-destructing messages function, allowing users to set a timer for automatic deletion of messages after a specified period.

The cloud storage feature ensures that no conversation is lost, and users can access their messages from any device.

Telegram’s Features

The main feature of Telegram is the ability to contact friends and exchange messages for free and securely. Additionally, users can program bots to assist in managing their community.

Here is a list of Telegram’s main features:

  • Free
  • Security
  • Privacy
  • Unlimited file sizes
  • Stickers and GIFs
  • Cloud synchronization
  • Telegram Channels
  • Telegram Groups
  • Telegram Bots

What is the difference between WhatsApp and Telegram? Telegram and WhatsApp differ in the ability to create Telegram channels for content publishing and the ability to create third-party software such as Telegram bots, which can assist in customer or community management.

Another difference is that Telegram has no size limits when sending files to other users, whereas WhatsApp has limitations on file size.

Telegram Channels

Telegram channels are a way to share content with a group of people, either public or private. Public channels can be found by anyone, while private channels can only be found by users who know the channel’s address.

Channels on Telegram often focus on specific niches, attracting enthusiasts and experts, providing information on a particular topic.

Telegram Groups

Telegram groups are a way to communicate with multiple people simultaneously, with a maximum group size of 5000 members. Groups can be public or private, with public groups being discoverable by anyone and private groups only found by users who know the group’s address.

Telegram Bots

Telegram bots are accounts controlled by a program rather than a person. Bots can send and receive messages like other users and can be used for various functions, such as information retrieval, creating surveys, or managing a to-do list.

Bots are a feature that sets Telegram apart from other instant messaging services. Third-party applications, presented as automatic chats, can interact with users, answer questions, and provide information. For example, there is a bot that, after entering information such as your location and your vehicle’s fuel type, provides all the details: price, distance, names of nearby distributors, and a link with the location on Google Maps
